FedEx Corp. has reorganized part of its operations into a standalone division called FedEx Life Sciences, aimed at handling the specific demands of healthcare and life sciences logistics — including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biologics, and clinical trial materials.
The move reflects a broader pattern of major carriers carving out specialized healthcare units rather than routing sensitive shipments through general freight networks. Temperature-sensitive biologics, time-critical trial kits, and regulated device shipments have different handling, documentation, and chain-of-custody requirements than standard parcels — requirements that generic logistics infrastructure doesn't always meet cleanly.
For HTM and supply chain teams, a dedicated carrier structure could mean more consistent handling standards and clearer escalation paths when shipments of loaner equipment, replacement parts, or implant trays go sideways.
